Testing

Bench testing and two moored flights were performed to test the capabilities of our probe.  The bench testing (lab testing) was done to calibrate sensors and verify the functionality of systems.   The moored flights gave us an opportunity to test in the field which is very different than the lab environment.  Information on the results of these tests can be found by following the Archive link and selecting "Final Report."

Bench Testing:

Thermocouple Testing

Lab Testing

Lab Testing

Complete sensor package

Testing nichrome and fuse triggering

Moored flights:

The moored flights consisted of elevating the probe to 200 ft and then running tests.   Four ropes were used to secure the balloon and we had the capability to raise and lower the probe to make adjustments.

Filling the balloon

Preping the probe for flight

Connecting power

Closing Probe setting up moored ropes
