Meeting Goals - Make sure everyone is moving forward
- Determine if the regulations permit the design
- Discuss any problems thus far
Agenda - We'll review regulation information to make sure that we are allowed to create such a design.
- Next, we'll hear how everyone did this last week, and what's been done.
- Finally, we'll address any problems that have cropped up so far.
Meeting Time The Classroom in GJL at 3:30pm, November 2nd, 2006
Meeting Minutes SIDS Monitor Team Meeting #8 11-02-06
I Regulations report: Colby and Jeff A. Documentation was found specifying allowed bandwidths for RF devices that operate with a considerable amount of signal amplitude. A. The RF devices of our design will operate at a relatively low amplitude. B. We need more information about what constitutes a "high amplitude" C. We would like to obtain sufficient documentation to justify our use of a certain frequency
i. Two medical studies with author names. ii. Possibly contact the author from the National Academy of Science iii. Possibly contact OSHA.
II. Inductor Materials: Chris
A. For wire, possibly use fine titanium wire i. Cost: maybe a bit too expensive ii. The resistance of such a wire must be determined B. Spring Steel, another option i. Cheaper than titanium
III. Weaving and Fabric Issues: Jen and Bart A. Question: Will a zig zag wire weave pattern cancel out it's own inductance? (Needs to be tested) B. A sewing team from the textiles department has offered to collaborate with us for this project. C. Note: There are standards associated with sleepwear in general. Must not be flammable etc.
IV. IEC 60601: Jeff A. Interlibrary loan searches have been inconclusive in finding the standard. B. Jeff will check with other engineers and experts in the field that may have dealt with the standard.
V. Controller Chip: Lloyd
A. Found a chip from Cypress Semiconductor called Peace Ox? i. Contains analog and digital circuitry. So the comparator is built in already. ii. Under $10 iii. Will interface with USB iv. Has timers and counters
VI. Action Items A. Main goal: Have a working prototype in two weeks i. At least a shirt, wire and all electronics on the shirt. B. Chris, Colby: Obtain some wire. Make inductor. C. Jen, Bart: Obtain a shirt, combine with inductor D. Lloyd, Jeff: Talk to Joe about tuning a pre-made oscillator. Order oscillator. E. Next meeting, everyone bring a list of goals that we would like our design to meet
