Oct 26, Meeting #7

SIDS Monitor Team Meeting #7 (Post Design Review)

10-26-06

I. Post design review questions/concerns from our client, Dale Wahlquist

A. Make sure any electronic unit on the baby is as small as possible.

B. The inductance changing strap must not pose any breathing hazards.

C. We need to file a provisional patent. (From our mentor, Don).

II. Initial Detailed Design Tasks

A. Designing the optimal inductor

1. Determine how loose the elastic must be

2. Wires must be coated

3. Determine optimal wiring method

4. Develop a stress model for the chosen gauge of wire

5. Determine the conductivity of wet skin.

B. Analog circuitry

1. Research FCC and other standards organizations’ codes for regulations regarding electro magnetic emissions from medical/domestic devices. Specifically in use around infants.

.a. Debunk the rumor that RF devices in proximity to infants cause improper brain development.

2. Determine an appropriate frequency range for the RF components of the design.

.a. Frequency must be very high due to low broadcasting power. (using no more than two watch batteries.)

3. Choose an oscillator manufacturer and order "X" number of oscillators

C. Digital circuitry.

1. Order "X" number of controller chips from Cypress Semi Conductors.

2. Study the interfacing capabilities of the chip

D. Additional considerations

1. Is there a specified "crib safe" battery type?

III. Assignment.

A. Inductor design - Jen, Bart and Chris

B. Analog circuitry

1. Standards research - Colby and Jeff

2. Frequency determination and oscillator hunting - Jeff

C. Digital circuitry - Lloyd
