I am currently working towards
a degree in Mechanical Engineering, which will be my second bachelor’s
degree. I earned my first in Biology several years ago. It is my eventual
hope to work as an engineer designing new and advanced prosthetic devices, a
career that nicely incorporates all my educational background. That is one
of the reasons I was attracted to this project, that and the chance to work
with an interdisciplinary engineering team.
Outside of school, I try to spend as much time
as possible outdoors. That means hiking and camping a lot during the
summers and skiing during the winters. I’m also an open water diver and am
currently working on obtaining my private pilot’s license. I’ve been lucky
travel some, as far as Poland and the Czech Republic, but it isn’t enough,
there’s too much yet to explore.

I am currently a senior pursuing a
bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho.
I am specializing in embedded systems and other digital systems design.
It is my desire to work either in industry or possibly as a civilian
engineer for the United States government producing dedicated control
systems. I have an interest in medical electronics, which is one of
the reasons I chose to work on this project.
Personally, I enjoy hunting and fishing and I am an avid movie-goer,
video
gamer, and reader. I have an interest in world travel and plan to go
to Dublin, Ireland the first chance I get. |
| Anthony Van |

anthony.van@vandals.uidaho.edu |
Anthony Van is
studying at the University of Idaho to become an electrical engineer. He
would like to find himself in the audio industry one day. When in the audio
industry his main focuses would be working with amplifiers, acoustic filters
and human interfacing with digital controls.
The main reason Anthony Van wanted to join on to the BENDER team (CPM
Machine) was to gain experience working with other disciplines in the
engineering field, such as computer engineers and mechanical engineers. He
would also like to have a chance working with some actual human interfacing
situations, so he can have a better understanding of the process.

| Lane Kleppen |

I am Lane Kleppen,
a senior in mechanical engineering. My scholastic interests vary
widely, from fracture mechanics and turbo-machinery to thermodynamics and
the biomedical field of study. My future plans include inventing and
marketing my own innovative products and eventually running a small product
design business. I am currently working on a few product designs
related to the agriculture industry since that is where my background lies,
being raised on a farm/ranch.
As a side, I am interested in the downhill
sports of mountain biking and snowboarding. I am musically inclined
and most enjoy playing jazz piano. I also enjoy working on classic
cars, having restored both a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle and a 1967 Mustang
Coupe. |

I am currently
working towards a degree in mechanical engineering and expect to graduate in
May of 2008. My interests lie in the fatigue and fracture and the material
aspects of design. While outside of class, I enjoy backpacking and racing
bicycles. I would like to pursue a career in the design and testing of
outdoor equipment. |

I was born in
Egypt and lived most of my life there. I recently joined the University of
Idaho as a senior. The rest of my college education was back in Egypt at the
Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Cairo where I spent four years
towards my B.Sc. in Comp E (all engineering curriculum there are five
years). I really enjoyed working with computers before I actually began my
college study, which is an incentive for me to work hard and try to
understand how that amazing machine works. My field includes not just the
software but the hardware as well.
I chose the CPM machine project because I thought it would be a great
opportunity to work as a part of an inter-disciplinary group. It involves a
medical side, which is fascinating and is something that hopefully will make
the life of the users of this machine easier and more comfortable after we
are done with this project.
I have yet to decide what I plan to do after I graduate in May 2008 but I
will probably try the work environment for a while before continuing towards
a Masters or Ph.D.
Outside of college work, I enjoy travelling to different places and learning
about different cultures of the world. Going to places is a lot different
and much more interesting than reading or even watching some documentary on
TV about it. This is partly why I thought of coming here to the US to finish
my studies. |

I am pursuing a Master's Degree
in Mechanical Engineering and plan to graduate in May 2008 with an
emphasis in Biomechanics. As a student in the Idaho Engineering Works, a
special graduate office, we mentor the senior design teams. I was drawn to
this project because of the biomechanical application and my desire to
help in rehabilitation efforts, after working as a physical therapy aide
during college. My thesis deals with leg muscles strength of children.
Outside of work, I enjoy rock climbing, the
outdoors, music, swing dancing, and traveling.
