2007 Contest Rules

The rules are simple, build a climber that can climb up a three-inch wide ribbon all by itsself.

  • Climb with NO onboard energy souce
  • Climb all 100 meters
  • Climb at 2 meters per second
  • Climb while lifting 25kg of payload
  • Must be able to descend at a controlled rate of 1 m/2 when done

Tentative 2008 rules

Some changes are being proposed to the 2008 competition

  • Climb a 1/2" rope (not a ribbon)
  • Climb using an 8KW 1064nm laser as a power source (provided by the competition)
  • Climb all 1,000 meters (1 km)
  • Climb at 1 meter per second for $25,000 prize
  • Climb at 2 meters per second for $900,000 prize
  • Climb at 6 meters per second $2M prize
  • Climb while lifting 25kg of payload
  • Must be able to descend at a controlled rate of 1 m/2 when done
