Team News
Beginning of Spring Semester
Over the Winter Break a few of the team members were
around town and did a fair amount of work. The high voltage system is
nearing completion and is almost ready to have everything set for the
final fit on the car. Despite some small issues with the dyno engine
and the new engine things are still coming along fairly well. We look
forward to a great semester and having the car going under power very
soon.
End of the Semester Update
The team has been hard at work the past few weeks
getting everything up to specifications for the end of the semester
technical inspection tomorrow afternoon. The car will be evaluated
according to last years competition checklists with additional
attention to the rule changes that have been announced so far for this
year.
Also, congratulations to all of the members of Vandal Racing who
graduated this past weekend; Corey Adrian, Chris Eacker, Stephen Hieb,
Zack Porter, and Justin Ruegsegger. Best of luck to them as they go out
into the engineering world.
Unveiling
Today was the official unveiling of the 2011-2012 Vandal Hybrid car. Special thanks to everyone that came out to support the team and for the hard work of the team these past weeks. The team stayed in Moscow over the majority of fall break in order to dedicate a solid block of time to finishing some major points on the car. Some of the things that got done include; suspension finished with anti-roll, engine mounts welded in, drive train almost fully installed, and the body was completed. Great job team, thanks for all your hard work. Go Vandals!
Production Update
With all of the systems starting to get placed on the vehicle it's really starting to look like a race car. The team is getting really excited even though there is much work to be done before winter break. As everything gets put together many of the small issues that were not considered start to appear and rule clarifications have to be discussed. However, without any major issues popping up the team should be able to meet all the deadlines before the end of the semester.
Post Snapshot Update
The entire team has been working really hard the past few weeks to get
everything done for snapshot and it all came together very well. Special thanks
to those that spent extra hours in the shop to get the brake lines run, as well
as those that helped get the engine case all put together.
Thanks to Stephen Hieb for taking a time lapse capture of the engine
assembly, and thanks to Cody Brumett for his work on editing it . Click here to
watch the video. There will likely be a higher production value time lapse
coming up as well now that they have it all figured out.
The teams are spending this week getting binders all put together for all
the subsystems and submitting log books for their review for midterms. It’s
starting to get exciting now that all the hard work is becoming visible in the
engine bay, metrology lab and in the shop. This car is really starting to come
together. Keep up the hard work everyone!
Steering Completed
The entire steering assembly has been completed and is mounted up in the car. Be sure to check the flickr account, pictures will be uploaded soon. This was one of the major milestones for the car. Next the team will be focusing on the braking system.
Breakthrough on the Engine Case
Some of the team stayed late on friday night while
most students left for their labor day weekend activities. After a lot
of hard work we were greeted with this video showing the case all together with all the internals. A great day for Vandal racing!

New Team Members
There have been new members selected for the Vandal
Racing Team from the senior design candidates. We would like to extend
a warm welcome to Justin Archer, Chris Enzler and Travis Shiell. We're
looking forward to a great semester, and were off to a great
start because news from the EFI crew is that they have the test engine
running on the dyno this week. Now they will be spending time
developing the tuning that we'll use on our race engine and getting
familiar with the new M800 ecu and its software.

If you're not already getting e-mails from us and you're interested in attending the next meeting is next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. Also feel free to e-mail us at hybridfsae@uidaho.edu, well be trying to make sure we have a meeting time that everyone can attend.
End of Summer Term Update
The team has been up to some pretty exciting things the past few weeks that are worth noting.
First
off, Vandal Hybrid Racing has successfully produced a rolling chassis.
Be sure to check the flickr account under the Photos & Video tab to
see new photos as they are posted by the team.
Vandal Hybrid
Racing is also now on facebook. Check out the page here and become a fan today. There are other fun updates and pictures there as well.
Eight
members of the team travelled to Seattle this past weekend for the EFI
101 class put on by EFI University. They came back with a ton of
information on EFI systems and guides about sizing and even how to run
the new MoTec software that we'll be using this fall once the engine
case has been fully assembled.
Stay tuned for more exciting news from the Vandals!
Welcome to our new sponsor, EFI University
The team has recently been in contact with EFI University and they have
decided to sponsor the team. With their sponsorship they are
giving five or six members from the team a special discount to
attend the EFI 101 course this fall August 13th and 14th. The
course is a specialized training session over the weekend that
will teach its students everything there is to know about
tuning.
