Our primary objective is to design a method of inserting vents into aluminum expanding foam molds for D8 Inc. that incurs a smaller economic cost than their present method of vent insertion. We will design a system for inserting 10 mm Dia x .6 mm (slot width) aluminum vents into flat mold surfaces on a 25 mm square grid. The molds are manufactured of 6061 plate aluminum and A356 cast aluminum, with a mold wall thickness of 10-16 mm. The specification list further defines the process.
· Tool should be no louder than using a hammer
· Tool’s insertion end should fit within the clearance constraint (40 mm X 100 mm cylinder)
· Tool should insert a vent in half the time required by the current method
