INTRODUCTION:

Throughout the semester several items were noted as potential stumbling blocks for our project The recommendations provided below are intended to help future teams to avoid some pitfalls in there efforts to create a fully functional machine.

 

RECOMMENDATIONS:

        SPUD CUTTERS:

  1. Test current design
  2. Re-iterate slide design
  3. Check for tolerance when plunged into the material
  4. Build and test guide or bearing for router bit
  5. Check for accuracy between test specimens to make sure spud cut repeatability
  6. Explore use of commercial air router or other routing alternatives

 

         LONGITUDINAL CUTTERS:

  1. Build brackets
  2. Test for tolerance along entire cut
  3. Explore use of commercial air router or other routing alternatives

 

           CROSS CUTTER:

  1. Perform deflection calculations for cross slide
  2. Redesign the cross cutter lead screw because it really bounces around
  3. Purchase high quality slide for cutter slide
  4. Re-iterate design of track
  5. Perform tests and check tolerance
  6. In the event that the router takes to deep a cut into holding fixture design cam system to eliminate problem

 

          OVERALL:

  1. Include a plan for implementing PLC controls into the final machine but donít focus on the actual PLC programming
  2. Include recommendations for Safety features but donít focus on the construction of the device because it adds expense
  3. Coordinate early and often with Instructors, Mentors and Customers as problems arise.  Donít be afraid to ask a lot of questions and for help with Issues.
  4. Keep a positive attitude and maintain a high level of enthusiasm to ensure success.
