On the next Lunar landing mission, our sponsor, NASA intends on retrieving atmospheric conditions and soil properties in the somewhat permanently shadowed craters in pursuit of Hydrogen. The environment in these craters are extreme enough that standard approaches to mobility considered impossible. Our task was to design a device to launch sensors from a Lunar Lander to radius of 60m. These sensors will be retrieving relevant information for the NASA specialists to process. This device needed to be designed to the mass and size constraints that had been generated by NASA as well as be reliable enough to work on the Moon.
