Meet the Team

From L to R - Kim, Kamran, Rory, Brent, Jeremy

Kim Baird
Hi, my name is Kim Baird. I grew up in Boise, ID. I loved growing up in Boise; there was so much to do in the area. If I was not on the basketball court or soccer field, I was in the mountains playing in the rivers and forests. My new favorite outdoor activity is jeeping. My dad and I try and go to Moab, UT to jeep each summer.
I started at the University of Idaho in 2006; I began as a civil engineer. It took me until my junior year to change to electrical engineering. I was introduced to electrical engineering by the President of the successful start-up company, Cradlepoint, for which I worked during the first couple of summers of college. I took a few classes and found a new world that I had not known before. In the spring semester of 2010 I knew I had made the right decision. I attended a power utility conference and then obtained a summer internship with a utility. Currently, I am directing my career efforts to the electric power aspects of electrical engineering.

Kamran Khan
Hi, my name is Kamran Khan. I am from India. I am in my final year in the Electrical Engineering department. As a kid, i grew up watching my dad working with electronics. I found it fascinating creating an interest in me to be an Electrical engineer. I am still not sure if i want to go to grad school right away after graduation. I would surely like to get some hands-on experience in the industry where i could apply my knowledge to the real world. I love playing sports. I play soccer, Tennis, PinpPong and Cricket. I like watching movies and when ever the weather is fine, I like going camping.

Rory Riggs
I am an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering at the University of Idaho and will be graduating with a bachelors degree in December 2011. I have been involved with VAST since spring 2007 and am the current team lead of C&DH (Command and Data Handling) Team; we do some work with NASA Ames and NASA Jpl. I am also the Vice Chair of the student branch of IEEE at U of I. Some of my hobbies are fishing and playing guitar. I'm still considering graduate school after I get my degree but would like to enter the workforce if possible.

Brent Kisling
I grew up in Pocatello, Idaho. In my spare time I enjoy playing guitar as well as outdoor activities such as camping and hiking. Currently, I am a senior electrical engineering major at the University of Idaho and am looking to graduate December 2011. I hold a great interest in electrical engineering, with my main area of interest in electronics. I am a member of the Command and Data Handling (C&DH) team as a part of VAST (Vandal Atmospheric Science Team). Our focus is data collection in the lower atmosphere via high altitude balloons, although we also consistently work with different NASA personnel on various projects. Some of my accomplishments include joining Tau Beta Pi (an engineering honors society) and consecutively making the dean's list each semester at UI.

Jeremy Wright
I am currently an undergraduate in Computer Engineering in my 4th year at the University of Idaho, and am expecting to graduate in December 2011. I am considering going to graduate school once I have my Bachelor’s degree, but I’ll wait until I’ve learned a little more over the next couple of semester’s to decide. The interest I have in my field was actually gained here at the University. I started as a Math major, but after looking into a couple different fields and taking some classes I changed majors and haven’t looked back. I’m excited to gain some design experience in working on this project. I enjoy playing video games, watching movies, playing pretty much any kind of sports, and anything else that I can do in the company of friends.
